Sharing the Music Stand

The Metropolitan Orchestra of Saint Louis has picked up the mantle of being the number one profession/educational orchestra in the city. A major part of its community outreach is the "Sharing a Music Stand" program. It is a mentorship program that places a small select group of young musicians next to seasoned professionals for all rehearsals and concerts for which they receive a stipend.

Harry Falk

Harry Falk, bass, far right

“This is the first time I have performed with a professional orchestra. It is a great experience and it is showing me what is out there in the musical world, and that doing something I love can be a profession in the future. It is challenging and is helping grow my musical skills. It makes me excited to continue to pursue playing the double bass.”

Sharing the Podium

In addition to “Sharing the Music Stand,” an important part of the MOSL mission is its “Sharing the Podium” program, which showcases emerging conductors with rich and diverse backgrounds. Up and coming conductors are given the rare opportunity to conduct a professional orchestra and refine their skills.
